Charlotte is learning animal sounds, as the following transcript indicates. Every time we read her favorite animal book, our interaction goes like this:
Charlotte: "vooo!"
Mommy: "What does the wooly lamb say?"
Charlotte" "voooo!"
Mommy: "What does the pink piggy say?"
Charlotte: "vooo!"
Mommy: "What does the billy goat say?"
Charlotte: "vooo!"
In other Charlotte news, she's now using "uh oh" and "wow" pretty regularly. She continues to do much more of her communicating by means of sign language, but she's not exactly quiet, since she spend a fair amount of time babbling loudly. She's also become a very good squealer/whiner when showing displeasure with Finley touching or taking something of hers.
Finley and Mommy had a couple of special dates together this weekend. On Saturday morning, the two of us went to commencement together and marched side-by-side in the alumni procession. Technically speaking, Finley is not exactly an alum of the college, but we bent the rules a bit and allowed him to join in the festivities! He especially loved the marching band and the part where we all clapped for the procession of graduates. We had a few of our special baby sitters and ski team friends graduating, so Finley was excitedly on the lookout for them among all the graduates in matching outfits!
For our second date, I asked Finley to pick whatever special thing he might like to do with me. I suggested going to lunch at a restaurant, a movie, or visiting the park together. All Finley really wanted to do, though, was to take his front-end loader and dump truck into our garden and play in the dirt together. So we did! It was fun, even though he was a touch bossy about exactly how I should drive the truck and where to dump the load, etc.
Our third special mother-son outing was a chance to ride our bikes (we both got new bikes this spring!) up and down Thompson St. Finley thought we were cruising really really fast!
